Working in a Donut Shop

I forgot to charge my camera battery so I used my iPhone.  I finished my BOM quilt.  Got the binding all sewn on the back by hand this morning after starting it yesterday afternoon.  I can't quite pul;l the trigger on sewing it down by machine which seems to be the fad recently.  I love the texture that developed when I quilted the lilac negative space.

I machine quilted it with lines half an inch apart  after I had quilted them an inch apart.  When I went back to fill in I skipped three inches and then would do more fill in.  I'm hoping the weather is more cooperative tomorrow for pictures.  It was so cold and dreary gray outside today I thought we might get snow!  And windy too.

A better pic of the lilac and more accurate in color.  If you're wondering about the title post it's because I imagine working in a donut shop must be similar to working on a quilt, at least for me.  I get so sick of making that quilt from start to finish, I cannot wait to either mail it to the recipient or put it away in the closet.  After a month I'm ok with seeing it!  Weird me, I know.

Here's the backing, I love the fabric it's so quirky and silly.  I even got it labeled today.

Vice Versa

I did just a little bit of sewing today.  These two blocks (for June) are part of the third BOM I joined at the beginning of the year.  Another paid subscription: instructions come out the first Friday of the month to make two quilt blocks which are opposites of each other.  Details can be found at Gen X Quilters.  The finished quilt will have a Modern tilt to it with the solids and large amount of negative space planned. 
I'm thinking of joining the Nested Churn Dash going on at QuiltJane. I certainly don't need another project but we'll see.
I'm off to Birmingham, Alabama tomorrow to look at apartments for the daughter.

Building Block Angst

It took me for ages to finally settle on fabric for this Block of the Month over at Gen X Quilters. I hemmed, I hawed, I dithered, I vacillated, and finally had to have a serious talk with myself! It's only a quilt!  The premise of the BOM is to make a modern looking quilt choosing solids or a variety of tone-on-tones.  First I gave a cursory glance at the old stash and made a dash for the LQS.  Yes, even though I made a resolution to Stick To The Stash I indulged and bought the recommended tone-on-tones, 20 FQs, only to get home and decide, naw, not what I had envisioned.  Back to the stash it was!  I actually found 5 one yard pieces only to have two of the reds bleed when I, thank goodness, tested them for colorfastness.  It's not that I am clever, but these pieces were at least 20 years old.  What to do?  My LQS came to the rescue and had a small Valentine's Day sale that I ended up getting the stack you see at the top. 

That is January A and January B, February A and February B blocks you see.  I am finding the Vice Versa BOM fun since I settled on fabric.  I haven't worked with solids in ages knowing I had a limited amount in the stash.  I went through a phase back in the mid 90s where that's all I worked with.  I find them very unforgiving as you see every imperfection, any mis-stitch seems to stand out.

Anyway, I played around with the instructions and made the blocks a bit different, more loyal to the name Vice Versa.
