As I mentioned in a previously, I've decided to play along with the crew at Sew, Mama, Sew and participate with their Giveaway Day!. I will take comments through December 6 EST and then using the Random Number Thingy chose one winner. I will ship internationally. Here's the deal, I participated in a disappearing 9-patch block swap and am clueless about what to do with my blocks. I have 100 blocks and they are about 6 inches square. To be eligible for the Giveaway prizes your comment must offer a suggestion/idea as to how to sew the blocks together. You can leave a link in your comments if that helps to clarify.

Here are the prizes for the lucky individual. A panel of Santa's Got the Goods, or I should say a half panel to make the quilt in the included instructions I'll send along. The colors are easy to match with other lines so I do not think that will be a problem as I know this line is not "current".

Two charm packs of Moda's Full Moon Forest. And a small handmade trinket box that I got in Russia this July. It's just the right size for pins, buttons, or whatever.

Well... A 10x10 blocks quilt could be cosy on the sofa...
And maybe, keeping all blocks in the same orientation (that is to say, the small square of each at the top left corner...)

For the blocks, I vote for piecing 4 together to make 12" blocks and then sashing them in white to break up all of that blue and red.

I was in the same swap and I am setting them in the traditional D9P setting. That means that four are arranged back into one block with the the one in the upper right position and the lower left position both have their small square patch in the center of the block. From there you can simply sew the large blocks together or put sashing between them. White sashing might break up the red for you.
I'd put a 2" white sash between each block, 6 squares across, 16 squares down. You can incorporate the 4 remaining squares into the back of the quilt.

what about if you border each square w/a dark purple/navy and turn it into a quilt?
For the blocks I would piece them with the large square in the same position - randomly placing red and blue "squares". I would border with a narrow red border and a wider blue border.
I am using this pattern for a quilt for my daughter - look forward to seeing what you finally do with yours.

What I like to do if I have blocks is just make borders, add different boarders for differnt blocks and then once all the blocks are together add borders to the edge of the quilt top.
That way you still have your blocks and they are the main focus still. Good luck!!
I'd say do something square, and as for which order to place the blocks, do it completely randomly. Put them in a box and draw one out at a time and sew them together in that order.
If you follow the link back from my comment to my blog, not too long ago I did a D9P runner. I laid it out so the little squares when kinda diagonal. I got the idea from the D9P runner in the PS I Quilt flickr pool... there is also a D9P flickr pool. Good Luck!
I would just put sashing in between the blocks and you will have a whimsical quilt! I love small blocks as opposed to bigger blocks.

I just had my daughter lay them out 9 X 11 and started to sew, they look great and I am going to put a white border around to frame the blocks and bind in red and aqua!Thank you for this chance!
I would cut the pieces into different sizes and nd make a crazy quilt.
Great giveaway! And very cute blocks. I am planning a D9P in my future too and I love the blue and red scheme. I would sew four of them together to make a larger block, then sew them all together to make a quilt - make a stripe or something on the back with any leftover squares. I like to do my quilts randomly - just mix the blocks all up and grab them as you sew - since these are all different, from the swap, it will really look random b/c the fabrics are all different.
I'm not exactly sure what to do with the blocks, but they scream cute little kids quilt.

As for a setting, I was just going to suggest puting them together in the standard DNP way and use a White background print with red/aqua for borders to enlarge the quilt and tone down the intense color. It'll make a great quilt whatever you decide.

Hey, this is my chance. I've never made a quilt, but you alredy made the blocks. It can't be so hard. I can't say how I'd sew them together, as I have no experience there, but I have a white blanket that is waiting to be covered with something.

I think you should use the blocks, with white borders around the disappearing nine patch blocks, and make a fun little throw or two. (I almost participated in that swap as well, but ended up being out of town and so I knew I wouldn't be able to get the blocks done in time!)
A shame you're not satisfied with the squares. I'd sew them four together - 2*2 (so in the new square there would be one big square in each corner). And then add white border between all these big squares... (You could make 4*6 big squares - and then only leave out 1 big square. It would make a great blanket for the sofa for wintertime...?)

I've never done a disappearing nine patch (it's on my list!). But I'm such an engineer, I'd probably do a standard layout. On the other hand, I might be tempted to chop them up even a little more before sewing them back together. I do sure love those red and aqua colors together!
It seems to me that you have enough blocks to make a lap quilt--either 10 x 10 square or 9 x 11 rectangle. I bet it will look great!
If you are thinking outside the realm of quilts, you could make a table runner or placemats or napkins. What about some pieced pillows? Just sew some together to make it the size of a pillow form, add an envelope back (http://sewing.about.com/od/freeprojects/ss/envelopepillow.htm is a tutorial on how to do envelope closures on pillows)
If you want to do something for the holidays, why not cover a Styrofoam wreath with the pieces? Or make a garland out of them?

I would put four of the blocks together (kind of like a four-patch)separated by one-inch white sashing, and then separate them all from each other by two-inch (finished) white sashing. If you have 100, you could do a 5x5 setup and the quilt would be about 77 inches square (if you also put just two-inch sashing all around the quilt). They look beautiful. whatever you do will be gorgeous!
100 squares! WOW! they are beautiful and would be so nice as a quilt, but you could also do lots of accent pillows-gifts for everyone!
I think just laying them about randomly until you like them is what I would do it makes it look more complicated that it really is yet it is oh so easy.

I'm a fan of squares in white sashing these days, so I would say maybe lay it out that way and then use the rest as a border.
If it were my quilt, I'd put strips of white between each block and put it together in a random pattern. It would make a great Christmas quilt that way, with all the red, white (and is that green or blue?)

in my house when I need to sew together a quilt that has lots of different blocks. I place them all out and leave them layed out (like a quilt) for a few days. My husband and children help me arrange the blocks until we are all satisfied that they are in the best possible place and then I take a picture!
I'd put white sashing in between and around the blocks to tone them down and make them pop.

hmmm... I think you should sew them together, randomly, with the little squares toward the center of the block. I always though that would be nice with disappearing ninepatches. Those colours are really great so it should look wonderful!

I'm a beginner quilter, so I'm not too sure here. However, I would probably keep the squares in larger groups. Perhaps make large blocks of 2x10 squares, and then sash around and between those blocks with white or grey linen?

I would either make a 10 x 10, which would be good for a lap quilt, or a 9 x 11 and throw out the least favorite block or put it on the back. You could add a border to bring the size up a little. A 10" border all around (or some sashing between the block sets) would bring the size up so it could be used on a twin bed.

The teal and red makes me think of kitchens and bathrooms. I would love to see them as pockets on a shower curtain or a back of the door storage unit in a bathroom. In a kitchen they would make a nice table runner and matching place-mats. I don't know if you know anyone with kids but my aunt made these great pouches that hang off the side of the chair at the table that holds "table games" so kids can keep crayons and paper and cards etc in the pouch and put them away when they're done. These would be very cute as little chair pouches. Can't wait to see what you do with them!

I partisapated in that same swap. I was wondering how to use them unti I was at a recent quilt guild meeting. The quilt artist was showing a quilt she had made with a large center square and piced blocks all around in the center she had machine appliquéd her daughters name each letter was kind of a different style. The center was fairly big and it looked great. This is what I am thinking about doing with mine. I will try and find a picture of hers and send it to you.

I would sash with white, 2" or 3". With blue squares at the intersections. I would put a white broader all around it with a blue border around that. I would put use red binding.
Perhaps you could match the small corner squares together..if there are enough the same, to make a square and then see what develops from there.

For your squares (which are GORGEOUS, red and aqua, be still my heart) what about setting them apart and sashing them in white, something like how Amanda Jean did her regular 9 patch quilts for her quilt-alongs (see here: http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2009/07/for-my-sister.html)
When I'm feeling overwhelmed with quilting, and can't make up my mind, I just put them all in a brown paper bag, and sew them together as they come out of the bag. Takes the stress away immediately! Good luck, they're beautiful blocks!

I was going to leave a sarcastic little comment like "ummm sew them to each other?" but then I realised it wasn't even as funny in a sarcastic tone as it was in my head....so I wish I could touch them and move them around...would it work to recreate the9-patch, that's the disapering 9 patch right? so "deconstructed" where you put those little squares all together in a little four patch, so 4 blocks per big block and go from there?

I love the bright colors in your squares. I think that putting 4 blocks together with two blocks having the small square to the center and the other two blocks having the small square to the outside. I also agree that white sashing would help balance out all the great colors.
I have twin boys so if I had those 100 6x6 blocks I would make two 6x8 block quilts with a 4 inch sashing. That would use up 96 of the blocks and I would use the remaining 4 blocks on the backing in different ways so that it would be easy to tell the difference between their two quilts at a glance. But that is just how I would do it... yes, i put way too much thought into this. By the way I'd use white sashing and light blue binding. i hope you find an idea that works for you. I love the idea of a square quilt sashed in matching colors plus one accent color. I love square because that way you can rotate it a quarter and it looks new.

I am super new to quilting, so this may be a typical quilt pattern - but I would make them into 12" blocks, joining your smaller blocks in the center. I would add white sashing (2-3"). Since you have so many, maybe make a lap quilt and save a couple of blocks to make some matching patchwork pillow fronts. Thanks for the giveaway!

Hmm...you have lots of great ideas already! I agree that some white sashing would look lovely with those colours. It might look nice if you started with 4 in the center, and then white around them, then surround the white with more blocks, then surround those blocks with white, making an increasingly bigger square, or you could start with 6 in the middle if you wanted a rectangle. I am not sure if this would work out with 100 blocks - you'd have to lay them out to find out or draw it out on gridpaper (which is what I often do). Good luck! I'd love to see it when it is done!

I see this has already been mentioned, but I'd lean towards groups of 4 or 9 and sashing with white. You can do a red or turquoise border around the whole thing and then bind in the opposite color.
I don't feel qualified to advise you on how to put the squares together. I'm just a beginning quilter, so I'm learning myself.

Hm...for some reason I picture crib bedding. A bumper with the blocks 2 high and a baby blanket with the rest. Any left over could be a wallhanging, diaper holder, soft toy even, anything to pull the decor together.

I think maybe you could pick a matching solid (maybe red or burgundy - can't see the colours too well), and then arrange the blocks in sets of four with the small square at the centre of the arrangement. Like a cross or windmill. Then you could border each set of 4 with your solid. :)

I am making my Mom a disappearing 9patch for Christmas. I'm using a lot of red in mine too--but no aqua...mine is black, red, pink and white--all featuring cherries or polka dots. I'm just sewing mine together in rows with no sashing for a lap quilt. Yours would be cute that way too, or you could add bright white sashing to make the red and aqua pop! Whatever you choose, you've got a good headstart!!

I would make a throw for the back of the sofa. I would just piece the blocks together. Then I would use some leftover blocks to make pillows for the sofa too. And if you had a bunch leftover you could make some big floor pillows.
Funny I didn't know that was what this block was called. I'm working on the same style of block. I'm just going to sew the blocks together and then border with a white print fabric. Nothing exciting. As for your quilt, I would do a 10x10 layout of your blocks and sash them with white sashing. A really GREAT sashing fabric is a twin sheet from IKEA! The fabric is nice, and it's wide and perfect for sashing! Happy Quilting!

As for your quilt question...I would probably break them into groups of four, with some soft cream (not white) fabric sashing between. Those colors are fabulous, by the way! I'm sure whatever you decide to do with them, it'll be beautiful.

I would forgo adding any extra material and just piece the blocks together with the little squares offset from each other. I would use a bright aqua backing to set it all off. What fun colors.
Those are some cute block - when sewn together they sure would be a room brightener! I made a stroller sized DNP and just went totally random - that's what I would advise you to do - there are photos on my flickr stream of mine. Your giveaway items are great...pick me!

What a fun project you have! I think I would just piece the blocks together, turning them 90 degrees each time, use tone-on-tone auqua fabric for the backing and diagonaly making diamonds and of course use red binding.
I would sew the squares in long strips with a single color separating all the rows. Pretty!
I would try seing how they looked place four to a (bigger) block -- small squares to the center. Then maybe use white or chocolate brown for the strips between the blocks and the binding

What about setting your blocks in a "coin" quilt fasion - sashing (2-3" finished) with a white or a very light teal/aqua color to help "ease the eye". It then would not matter how the blocks are turned, unless you're one who likes them all moving in the same direction.

I'd sew them in groups of four, with the smaller squares together, so as to make crosses. Each group of four would have the same large and small colors. Then I'd alternate red and blue large blocks.

I vote for you to throw them down on the floor and play with them. I see a scrappy quilt out of this with the smaller blocks running in diagonals!
Group then into blocks of 4, or rectangles would work, then use red sashing around the groupings!

That is a whole lotta blocks! I'd make one or two (or three?) lap quilts, sashing them with a pale taupe or pale gray cotton so the colors pop even more. Or make a large bedquilt and coordinating curtains trimmed with a row of the blocks.

I am new to sewing and definitely do not know much about quilting, so if I had all of those blocks I would make a patchwork skirt, for yourself or a little one for a little girl (or both).

I didn't know there were different ways to put disappearing 9 blocks together! What would happen if you just did it randomly? Just pick up a block and sew it on! It might be fun! I love the colors!!!

I would put up a flannel sheet if you do not have a design wall. I would sort the block to similar piles and then start putting them on the design wall to work out a pleasing design and move them around if necessary.
I would love to use those disappearing nine patch squares for a quilt for my bed! =) Obviously a quilt is an easy answer, but that is the one thing I have personally wanted to make recently and I'm really loving those colors! Snce all your blocks are more or less the same colors, I would put then in a brown paper bag and draw them out one at a time and sew together until you have the correct width and length you desire. Then I would call it My Brown Paper Bag Quilt. Your giveaway items are reat!

The blocks are beautiful! I have made a D9P quilt, and after sewing 4 of your blocks together, you could sash them with a good contrast, maybe black. I'm sure it would look beautiful! Wonderful giveaway.

I love the little box. I'm working on a disappearing 9 patch table runner. I just cut up the block and rearranged them. You could individually sash around each one kind of like in the link below.

Well, I'm just a beginning quilter so I'm not sure what to do with the blocks other than just make a quilt out of them. Maybe a table runner or placemats? Maybe some library bags? I love the color combinations!

If it was me, I'd probably arrange them in a rectangle, randomly then play around with it until I get the squares in the right place. Not very creative but it would work for me:)
Love the Turquoise Blue and Red together! There are so many options- but I would defineately accent them min white to make them pop!

I have an idea, your house's going to look beautiful, (the credit will all mine!), you can make a table cloth, and pillow cases to match with it, if you have remain squares, then you can make a table runner and if you just have a few, you can make an apron, that way you can match with the other quilts as well, lol. With so many different patterns I would just sew them together randomly for a nice little summer quilt.
I think we might have done the same swap. Was yours hosted by Jane? I was at a loss as to how I wanted to put my blocks together as well since there is so much variation in the colors or red and aqua that were used. So I decided that I was going to sew 4 together kinnda jumbled like. And then sash it with white kona cotton. That way all of the blocks won't be competing so much with each other. This is just my idea but I am going to keep reading your comments to see if something else sounds like it could work better :)

I would do a table runner, oven mitts and a trivit..... then with the rest maybe chair cushions.... that way when you sit on it it does not matter how chaotic it is... I enjoy chaotic and I see that the colors basically work... I think it would be nice.... I really like the squares.... Thanks for the great giveaway!

How to lay them out ... I say ... start laying them out on the floor and wing it !! Whenever I think too hard, I just get confused (maybe that's just me :))
I've never made a quilt like that but I think it would look nice if you sow them into strips, then sepatate the strips with white sashing. It would make a striped quilt. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I just made my first disappearing 9 patch. I tried to put all of the little squares together and make a type of border around them. It turned out cute, but I think it would have been better if I had made the quilt larger. It was a lap quilt with large blocks, so the pattern didn't get much chance to repeat.
